Can you introduce yourself?
I’m Magali! I studied illustration at University and graduated last summer. Since then, I have been working as a freelance illustrator. I’m currently working on my first 2 picture books! When I’m not drawing, I’m a lover of cycling through my city, getting lost in a book or writing newsletters.
How do you describe your creative world?
I love warm colors, playful details and illustrations that bring back happy memories. I think my creative world encapsulates a lot of my own memories and observations. This is why I always have my sketchbook with me – to capture moments, that I otherwise would forget. My creative world doesn’t stop at drawing – it includes music, clothing, fabrics, food – it’s made out of all these little parts that make me me.
Where do you find your inspiration?
I find my inspiration all around me, in interactions I observe, in conversations with people, in color combos I spot just walking around (my tip: always take a quick picture if you see something that inspires you)
Book stores are one of my favorite places for inspiration. There are just so many stunningly illustrated books out there, and they never fail to inspire me.
How important is your interior to you?
I am a big home-body. I need my own space where I feel calm and grounded. I buy most of my furniture second-hand, but I love mixing in more modern pieces like the PLI Shelves, that add a fresh pop of yellow.
Do you have a recent creative discovery to share with us?
I recently stumbled across two first-edition books of Miroslav Šašek’s “This is..:” Series (Paris & London), where he introduces the reader to different cities through words and illustrations. The books are from 1959, and they are full of charming drawings and characteristic observations. He was such a brilliant artist.
