Can you introduce yourself?
Hey, my name is Philippa Coules and I’m an Illustrator based in Oxfordshire, UK. I love to create art that evokes warmth and joy, drawing inspiration from vibrant, playful colour palettes and subtle textures.
How do you define your creative universe?
I would define my creative universe as colourful, warm and cosy. Drawing is a comfort to me and always has been, so I like to reflect that in my art style.
Where do you find inspiration on a daily basis?
I’m very inspired by nature, streetstyle, photography, fashion and even everyday objects such as food! I’m also really drawn to interesting and bold colour palettes found in retro childrens books or fashion photography from the 1960s and 70s. Other artists massively inspire me and I also like to get out to view current art and design exhibitions when I have free time.
What importance do you give to your interior?
Interior design is hugely important to me as it can quite often inspire my work, we’re currently renovating so I’m moodboarding ideas at the moment. I love pairing colours, patterns and textures together! I think a well considered and designed space can really impact your wellbeing, which is so important especially when working from home often.
What is your vision of TIPTOE?
TIPTOE’s products are so versatile and can be adapted to so many styles of interior, I like how sustainability is a big part of their design ethos.
What drove you to integrate our objects into your universe?
It was fun to illustrate the MIDI table and show how people socialise and interact with the product, the fact it’s an outdoor piece of furniture meant I could create a beautiful nature-inspired backdrop! The architecture and frontage of the flagship store in Paris was also very beautiful and inspiring.
Any recent creative discoveries to share with us?
We’ve recently bought a Sophie Smallhorn print, my husband introduced me to her work and now we have it hanging up in our dining room. I almost always work digitally on my ipad to create art, so a recent re-discovery has been using real crayons and pencils again when drawing with my daughter!
Your favorite place in Oxfordshire?
We are fortunate to be surrounded by amazing countryside, so on the weekend we enjoy walking up near the ridgeway or around Oxford – usually finding a good place to eat!
